About Noir

Noir is an independent photo-journal. We publish long, patient visual stories: a week with a lighthouse keeper, eleven nights in Tokyo after the last train, a year of photographing hands. We believe a good photograph takes time, and a good story takes longer.

How we work

Every story on Noir is photographed and written by the same person. We do not buy stock photography. Our photographers spend days, weeks, sometimes years on a single story, and we pay them properly for it.

How we are funded

Noir is funded by its members. There are no ads. Members get every story, the full archive and a printed annual of the year's best work.
